Apple Maps Ad Rules Bar Home Services, Crypto ATMs Before Launch
Apple is preparing to launch Apple Maps ads, but not every business will get the chance to advertise. The company has introduced new advertising rules that stop home services and crypto ATM businesses from placing ads on Apple Maps. The decision shows Apple wants to keep the platform simple, trusted, and easy to use.
Apple updated its Advertising Services policy on July 14. Under the new rules, businesses offering plumbing, electrical work, locksmith services, HVAC repairs, pest control, roofing, and general contracting cannot buy ads on Apple Maps. Crypto ATM operators and bail bond companies also remain on the banned list. Medical service ads may still appear, although Apple will review each one before approval.
Apple Limits Who Can Advertise on Maps
The new policy makes Apple Maps different from Google Maps. Google allows many home service businesses to advertise after completing background checks and verification.
Apple has decided to focus on businesses that people can visit in person, including restaurants, retail stores, travel locations, and other local shops. The company believes this approach will make search results more useful and less crowded.
Apple Introduces Stricter Ad Guidelines
Apple has also banned ads that contain false claims, offensive content, political campaigns, weapons, violence, controlled substances, and defamatory material. These rules show Apple wants stronger control over the quality of ads shown inside the Maps app.
Apple Maps ads will appear differently. Instead of showing several sponsored businesses, Apple plans to display only one promoted location in search results. A blue ring around the map pin and an “Ad” label in the Suggested Places section will clearly show which listing is sponsored.
Apple Maps Ads Rollout Nears
Privacy is still an important part of Apple’s plan. The company says information about ad clicks and interactions will stay on the user’s device. Apple will not collect that data or share it with third parties.
Apple has already confirmed that Maps ads will be launched in the United States and Canada this summer, although it has not announced an exact date. The latest policy update suggests the rollout is getting closer. Apple may allow more business categories in the future, although the company has not shared any further details.
