India’s crypto market remains heavily tilted toward younger investors, but older users appear to show stronger buying conviction and broader portfolio diversification, according to CoinSwitch data for the April-June 2026 quarter.Indian crypto investors
Investors aged 26-35 represented 50.5% of CoinSwitch’s investor base, while those aged 18-25 accounted for 16.3%. Together, users aged 35 or below made up nearly three in four investors. The 36-45 group contributed 22.8%, while investors aged 46 and above represented 10.5%.
Younger Investors Drive New Crypto Accounts
The age split was even more pronounced among new users. Investors aged 18-25 accounted for 54.4% of new additions during Q2-CY26, while the 26-35 group contributed another 25.4%.
“Together, these figures show that nearly three out of every four crypto investors are aged 35 or younger, reflecting the continued appeal of digital assets among India’s digitally native population,” CoinSwitch said. However, younger investors were not the strongest buyers.
Older Investors Show Greater Buying Conviction
The 18-25 group recorded a buy-to-sell ratio of just 0.65, making it the only age segment with more selling than buying. By contrast, investors aged 46 and above posted the highest ratio at 1.14.
“What we are seeing in India is a shift from crypto being viewed simply as a new asset class to investors developing a more nuanced understanding of how they want to participate in it,” said Ashish Singhal, co-founder, CoinSwitch.
Portfolio diversification also increased with age. Around 59.2% of investors aged 18-25 held only one cryptocurrency, compared with 36.3% among those aged 36-45. The 36-45 cohort also has the highest share of investors holding 10 or more cryptocurrencies , at 9.1%.
