Visa and Mastercard are making it easier for businesses to use stablecoins for cross-border payments. Their new services let eligible companies use USD Coin (USDC), a digital coin linked to the US dollar, to fund international payments. Recipients can still get the money in their local currency through a bank account. They do not need to own or use crypto to receive these payments.

Visa is working with payments firm Inyo Global to let eligible Visa Direct clients fund payouts with USDC. Mastercard has also opened its Global Money Platform to stablecoin infrastructure firm BVNK.

The service links stablecoin funds with currency exchange and bank payouts. Nuvei and Marqeta are expected to be among the first firms to use Mastercard’s platform. The wider plan aims to support payments in more than 200 countries and over 40 currencies by 2027.

Most international bank transfers depend on bank hours and payment cut-off times. This can delay transfers made late in the day, over weekends, or during holidays. Stablecoins can move at any time on supported networks, giving businesses another way to fund payments.

Visa’s service lets eligible companies use USDC to fund payouts instead of relying only on regular banking routes. Mastercard’s platform connects stablecoin funds to its payment services, while recipients can still get local currency in their bank accounts.

This means businesses can use digital money without asking every customer or supplier to deal with crypto. Access will depend on the service, location, and local rules.

How Stablecoins Could Help Businesses Manage Cash Flow

There are multiple companies across the world that pay wages to overseas workers. They even have suppliers and customers who are from different time zones. In these cases, payments have to wait until banks open or the company is ready to send the money. Stablecoins could help eligible firms fund payments outside normal banking hours.

This may give businesses more control over when they pay bills. They can send money on weekends, respond to urgent needs, and better match payments with incoming funds. However, fees, exchange rates, and local payment systems will still affect the final cost and speed. If these services grow, companies may get more flexible ways to send money across borders.
