A series of unusual posts linked to McDonald’s India triggered confusion on social media after an individual claiming to be an intern alleged that they had not been paid, described financial struggles and then began promoting a memecoin.
The posts were published on September 6 and were later deleted. Screenshots continued circulating, but McDonald’s India (West & South) denied any association with the content and said the material was fabricated.
Intern Claims Months of Unpaid Salary
In one post, the individual claimed to be an intern handling several McDonald’s Asian social media accounts and alleged that a manager named Amit Joshi had failed to pay them.
“I am an intern at McDonald’s India. My boss, Amit Joshi, has not paid me for months, forcing me to take on two extra jobs,” the post read.
Another message said the individual worked in customer support and delivery while also trading memecoins.
“In addition to my two jobs in customer support and delivery, I try to trade memecoins. I literally starve every day because I lose all my money on them,” the post stated.
The person later claimed unpaid dues exceeded Rs. 60,000, described as approximately USD 650, and said they planned to seek community support.
Posts Shift Toward Crypto Promotion
The tone changed when the account began sharing cryptocurrency-related content, including a memecoin promotion and wallet addresses.
A later post reportedly said, “Thanks, I have claimed fees!”
That shift led many users to suspect that the account or screenshots had been manipulated as part of a possible cryptocurrency scam.
One user wrote, “I think the account was hacked by some memecoin seller,” while another said, “That account was compromised.”
Others initially interpreted the posts as an example of a young employee publicly challenging an employer over unpaid wages.
McDonald’s India Denies Association
In a statement issued to News18, McDonald’s India (West & South) said, “McDonald’s India has no association with a social media post currently circulating online.”
The company added that the content “falsely uses our brand name and was never posted from our official social media handle.”
McDonald’s further said there were “clear discrepancies in the image” indicating the content was fabricated and urged people not to spread unverified information.

The episode shows how quickly workplace allegations and crypto promotions can merge into viral misinformation. With no independent confirmation supporting the unpaid-salary claims, the company’s denial and the later memecoin promotion make the authenticity of the posts highly questionable.
