Bitcoin has fallen 0.82% to USD 81,756.76 over 24 hours as losses in US technology stocks, Bitcoin ETF withdrawals, and forced selling weighed on the cryptocurrency.

The latest decline followed a broad sell-off in U.S. technology stocks on October 22. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.6%, while the S&P 500 lost about 1.2%. Investors reduced exposure to technology companies after fresh earnings reports raised questions about spending on artificial intelligence.

Meta was among the companies facing selling pressure. Its third-quarter earnings release put planned 2026 capital spending at USD 135 billion to USD 145 billion, up from a previous range of USD 130 billion to USD 145 billion. The company said it expects to “continue investing aggressively” beyond 2026.

Meanwhile, rising oil prices and geopolitical tensions added to pressure across financial markets. Bitcoin briefly traded below USD 81,000 before moving back toward USD 82,000 in Asian trading on Friday. The move followed new concerns about potential U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.

Asian stocks recovered from session lows as the Japanese yen retreated toward 157 per dollar. Oil remained near USD 100 a barrel, keeping energy prices in focus ahead of the Federal Reserve’s next meeting.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs Record USD 635 Million in Withdrawals

U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded USD 635.49 million in net outflows on October 22, according to SoSoValue. The withdrawals ended a three-day inflow streak and reversed the USD 528 million that entered the funds on October 21.

The latest figures left the funds with about USD 175 million in net withdrawals for October, despite approximately USD 443 million in net inflows during the week. Thursday’s outflow was the largest daily withdrawal since June 25, when the funds lost about USD 696 million.

The change followed a short recovery in ETF demand. October has included other Bitcoin ETF withdrawal sessions as well as short periods of buying. Meanwhile, the renewed fund withdrawals coincided with another fall in the cryptocurrency’s market price.

Bitcoin Long Liquidations Add to Selling Pressure

Leveraged traders faced losses as Bitcoin retreated from its recent highs. Market figures cited for the 24-hour period showed approximately USD 81.08 million in Bitcoin long liquidations. Such liquidations occur when exchanges close positions because traders can no longer meet margin requirements.

Across cryptocurrencies, liquidations reached about USD 435 million over the reported period, including around USD 385 million in long positions. The figures show that traders betting on price increases accounted for most of the forced closures.

Bitcoin had reached an intraday high near USD 84,777 on October 21 before falling into the USD 81,000 range on Thursday. The decline followed the loss of short-term price gains while U.S. shares were under pressure.

Bitcoin Price Outlook Ahead of October Options Expiry

Bitcoin faces an immediate test around USD 80,841, a recent swing-low support level. A move below that price would put the USD 77,600 area in focus. On the upside, USD 82,571 marks a nearby resistance level, followed by USD 84,300 if the price recovers.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin options worth approximately USD 1.23 billion are scheduled to expire on October 23. A larger monthly expiry on October 30 carries about USD 11.2 billion in notional contracts, as covered in the October crypto events calendar. These figures represent contract values rather than expected buying or selling.

Traders will receive the Federal Reserve’s next interest rate decision on October 28. The central bank raised its benchmark rate in September. Its next meeting follows Friday’s U.S. business activity reports, giving markets another update on economic conditions. ETF flows and stock market trading will provide additional daily readings.
