A Nashik man lost Rs. 8.55 lakh in a fake cryptocurrency scam after meeting a woman on social media. The scam took place between November 14, 2025, and August 8, 2026. The woman promised him high returns from crypto trading and introduced him to a trading website. She later asked him to send money for trading fees, commissions, and other charges.
According to the complaint, the woman first met the man through social media and later spoke with him through internet calls. She told him that cryptocurrency trading could bring large profits. She then helped him open an account on a website and asked him to deposit money into different bank accounts.
How the Crypto Scam Worked
The man followed her instructions and deposited Rs. 8.55 lakh over several months. The website showed profits in his account, which looked genuine. However, the man could not take his money out when he tried to withdraw it.
Victim Realizes the Website was Fake
He then understood that the website was fake and reported the matter to the Nashik Cyber Police Station. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. A senior police officer said, “We are currently investigating the case.”
How Investors Can Avoid Such Scams
The case shows how scammers can use social media to find people looking for quick investment gains. Fake websites can also show false profits to make victims trust the platform.
Many such scams later ask victims to pay more money before allowing withdrawals. Investors should check a crypto platform carefully before sending money or trusting investment offers from strangers online.
