    Chandigarh Man Duped of Rs 5.5 Lakh in Telegram Crypto Job Scam

    23-Year-Old Chandigarh Man Loses Rs. 5.5 lakh in crypto investment scam after Telegram Job Scam: UPI Fraud and Digital Currency Trap on Rise Stay Alert

    This case adds to the growing number of cyber fraud cases in India. Chandigarh cyberA crypto investment scam has hit Chandigarh again, as a 23-year-old man lost Rs. 5.5 lakh after a fake Telegram job offer. The case shows how fast online fraud is growing.

    The victim, Shubham Kumar Goyal, from Sector 45, Chandigarh, received a message from a woman on Telegram on May 24 who claimed to be working in a digital marketing company. She offered the man a simple hotel rating work with daily earnings of Rs. 3,500.

    Small Payment Built Trust

    The job looked real in the beginning as Goyal completed some tasks and received Rs. 160. This small payment built trust, then the scam moved to the next step.

    On May 27, the woman asked him to invest in digital currency. She shared QR codes and many UPI IDs. This turned the job into a crypto investment scam.

    Goyal sent money repeatedly, using his own bank account as well as those of friends and family. The total amount reached Rs. 5,50,142.

    Investment Trap and Withdrawal Failure

    The scammers initially returned only Rs. 2,000. Soon after, Goyal tried to withdraw Rs. 16,800 and the request failed.

    The fraudsters informed him that his account was frozen. They gave reasons one after another and delayed the process, but there was no further return amount. Goyal finally understood it was a digital currency scam.

    He then filed a complaint at the Chandigarh cybercrime police station in Sector 17. The police registered a case and started reviewing all transactions. Officers are tracking UPI fraud links and QR payments to find the accused.

    Police Investigation Underway

    After the probe started, police warned that these Telegram job scams are increasing. Scammers first give small payments to win trust, then they push victims into big crypto investment scams. Many people fall into this trap.

    Experts say people should be cautious and avoid unsolicited job offers on Telegram. Always check platforms before sending money. Use trusted apps for digital currency workcrime teams are working to trace the culprits and stop such scams.
