Bitcoin life insurance provider Meanwhile has secured USD 37.5 million in new funding as it expands services for wealthy clients outside the United States. The Bermuda-based company announced the investment on October 8, 2026, bringing its capital raised to more than USD 180 million. Its insurance policies use Bitcoin to set premiums and death benefits.
Bain Capital Crypto Leads Meanwhile’s New Funding Round
Bain Capital Crypto led the round, with participation from existing investors Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital. OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman is also a backer of Meanwhile, although the company did not identify him as a participant in this latest investment. The insurer did not disclose a valuation.
The new financing follows two funding rounds in 2025. Meanwhile secured USD 40 million in April and another USD 82 million in October of that year. The company said the latest capital supports its international expansion, with growing demand for policies that use Bitcoin for both payments and insurance benefits. Its coverage amounts remain expressed in BTC throughout the policy.
Bitcoin Life Insurance Offers Single-Premium Coverage
Meanwhile introduced BTC Life 1-Pay in early 2026 for high-net-worth clients outside the United States. Policyholders make one premium payment in Bitcoin and receive life insurance coverage with a guaranteed death benefit measured in BTC. Individuals, trusts and companies can own the policies, subject to eligibility rules. The insurer says the policy value also grows in Bitcoin over time.
After the first policy year, owners can borrow up to 90% of the policy’s surrender value in Bitcoin. Meanwhile says these loans have no fixed repayment schedule or margin calls. However, loans accrue interest at 3% annually in BTC, and any outstanding amount is deducted from the death benefit. Its separate BTC 10-Pay product targets US taxpayers, rather than the international audience for BTC Life 1-Pay.
Meanwhile Signs 15 Brokers in International Markets
Since launching its single-premium product, Meanwhile has signed agreements with 15 brokers serving wealthy families. The company identified Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Switzerland among its target markets.
Its distribution partners include Lioner, which operates in several financial centres, and Apeiron Group, a life insurance marketplace. These firms provide routes to clients interested in inheritance planning involving Bitcoin holdings.
Meanwhile co-founder and chief executive Zac Townsend said, “Brokers came to us because their clients kept asking.” The company also reported that net long-term underwriting income in 2026 had already exceeded its full-year 2025 total. It expects that figure to more than double this year, although it did not publish an exact amount. That estimate remains a company projection, not a reported annual result.
Audited Bitcoin Assets and Bermuda Regulation
According to financial results released in April 2026, Meanwhile held 1,183.11 BTC in total assets at the end of 2025, compared with 220.41 BTC one year earlier. Its statutory capital and surplus increased to 759.11 BTC from 123.23 BTC. The insurer also reported net income of 20.89 BTC for 2025, its second consecutive profitable audited year.
The Bermuda Monetary Authority granted Meanwhile a Class IILT insurance licence in July 2024 after it participated in a regulatory testing program. The company says regulated institutional custodians hold policyholder Bitcoin, while its financial statements and reserves use BTC.
Because coverage is measured in Bitcoin, its value in traditional currencies can change as Bitcoin prices move. Eligibility and tax treatment vary by jurisdiction, and policies are distributed through licensed intermediaries where permitted.
