US President Donald Trump is expected to outline new efforts against overseas cryptocurrency fraud networks during a White House cybersecurity event on October 21. The administration will highlight enforcement actions targeting fraudulent investment platforms and online impersonation schemes that have affected American investors.
A White House official confirmed to Reuters that Trump and senior administration members would discuss measures to disrupt foreign criminal organizations involved in digital asset scams.
White House Targets International Crypto Fraud Networks
The event will focus on government efforts to seize fraudulent cryptocurrency investment websites and prevent criminals from impersonating legitimate individuals or organizations online. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, FBI Director Kash Patel, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Todd Blanche are expected to attend.
The initiative follows Trump’s March executive order directing the Justice Department to prioritize investigations and prosecutions involving online scammers. The administration subsequently instructed the Department of Homeland Security to cooperate with private companies in monitoring foreign criminal hacking networks.
FBI Records Over 1 Million Internet Fraud Complaints
The FBI report stated that Americans submitted more than 1 million complaints involving internet scams in 2025, representing a 17% increase compared with 2024. It also indicated that reported financial losses reached record levels, highlighting the growing economic impact of online fraud. The administration’s planned enforcement measures aim to disrupt criminal infrastructure and reduce Americans’ exposure to fraudulent investment opportunities.
Trump’s Crypto Business Interests Draw Scrutiny
The announcement comes amid questions surrounding the Trump family’s cryptocurrency ventures. Reuters’ investigation found that Trump and his sons generated at least USD 2.3 billion in additional family wealth through their principal crypto businesses, while investors collectively experienced losses of approximately USD 2.3 billion.
Responding to the investigation, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly stated, “All actions by President Trump and his administration are taken in the best interest of the American people.” Trump also pardoned Binance founder Changpeng Zhao in October 2025 following his conviction connected to the exchange’s anti-money-laundering compliance failures.
The White House event is expected to emphasize stronger enforcement against international cybercriminals as cryptocurrency investment fraud remains a concern for US authorities and investors.
