Coinbase has expanded its derivatives business into Canada, giving eligible sophisticated and institutional investors access to 23 cryptocurrency futures contracts with leverage of up to 10 times.

The products are offered through Coinbase Financial Markets, the company’s US-registered futures commission merchant. The rollout gives qualifying Canadian clients a regulated alternative to offshore derivatives platforms.

    Crypto Futures Expand in Canada

The lineup includes futures linked to Bitcoin, Ether, Solana and 20 other digital assets. Coinbase is also offering five commodity contracts covering markets including gold, silver and oil, alongside index futures such as COIN50.

Investors can choose between perpetual futures, which have no fixed expiry date, and dated contracts that settle according to a predetermined schedule.

Both products allow traders to take long or short positions without directly owning the underlying cryptocurrency. They can therefore be used for speculation as well as hedging existing portfolio exposure.

Coinbase said global crypto derivatives trading volume is approximately 4.4 times larger than crypto spot trading volume.

Nano Contracts Offer Up to 10x Leverage

Coinbase has structured the products as nano-sized contracts, lowering the amount of upfront capital required compared with larger futures contracts.

Eligible traders can use leverage of up to 10 times depending on the contract and applicable margin requirements. However, leverage also magnifies losses and increases the possibility of liquidation when available margin falls below required levels.

Coinbase has introduced temporary pricing of 0.02% per trade plus USD 0.11 per contract. The company has not disclosed when the introductory pricing will end.

    Access Remains Restricted

The new futures are not available to ordinary Canadian retail investors. Eligibility includes certain customers with at least USD 5 million in net financial assets, excluding real estate, alongside qualifying registered investment advisers and dealers.

According to the Bank of Canada, around one-third of publicly listed Canadian non-financial companies use derivatives to hedge risks affecting earnings, including commodity prices, interest rates and foreign exchange.

    Coinbase Expands Global Derivatives Push

The Canadian launch follows Coinbase’s USD 2.9 billion acquisition of Deribit and broader international derivatives expansion.

Its UK offering includes more than 170 perpetual contracts with leverage of up to 50 times, while Australia offers as much as 50 times leverage across 150 contracts.

Coinbase reported USD 1.03 trillion in crypto derivatives trading volume during Q2 2026. Canada now becomes another market in its strategy to move regulated crypto derivatives further into mainstream investment infrastructure.
