PIB Warns Public Against Fake Crypto Posts, Says India Still Does Not Recognize Crypto as an Asset
The Indian government has denied a viral social media claim that said the Finance Ministry asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to regulate cryptocurrency. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check Unit said the claim is fake and confirmed that the government has not issued any such direction.
The post spread across social media and led many people to believe that India was preparing to introduce new crypto rules. It even used official logos and images to look genuine. After checking the claim, PIB marked the post as fake and asked people to trust only official government sources for important policy updates.
PIB Confirms Viral Crypto Claim is Fake
The government also said that India’s position on cryptocurrency has not changed. Crypto is still not recognized as an asset in the country. The Finance Ministry has not asked the RBI or SEBI to prepare or introduce a regulatory framework for digital assets.
This clarification only clears the false claim shared online. It does not mean the government has announced a new crypto law or changed its existing policy. Any future decision on cryptocurrency will be shared through official channels.
No Change in India’s Crypto Policy
The update matters since fake news about government policies can confuse investors and traders. Many people react quickly to such reports, which can affect market sentiment. Verified information helps people understand what is true and prevents unnecessary confusion.
India continues to follow a careful approach toward cryptocurrency. The country taxes virtual digital assets, but it has not introduced a complete regulatory framework. Policymakers continue to study the risks linked to crypto before taking any major decision.
Government Urges People to Trust Official Sources
PIB also reminded citizens to check facts before sharing posts on social media. False information can spread very fast, especially when it is linked to finance or investments. Relying on official government announcements remains the safest way to stay informed.
The latest clarification confirms that no new instructions have gone to the RBI or SEBI regarding crypto regulation. India’s crypto policy remains the same, and the viral social media post has no connection with any official government decision.
