Meanwhile, a company that offers life insurance policies based on Bitcoin has raised USD 37.5 million in funding, bringing its total raised amount to over USD 180 million. The Bermuda-based firm, backed by Sam Altman, seeks to grow its insurance portfolio that relies on Bitcoin for premiums, coverage, and wealth planning.

Bain Capital Crypto Leads Funding Round

According to company disclosures, Bain Capital Crypto led the latest funding round. Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital were the key participants.

The company previously raised USD 82 million in October 2025 and USD 40 million in April 2025. The most recent investment shows the institutional interest in Bitcoin-related financial services beyond crypto trading.

    Bitcoin Insurance Assets Expand Fivefold

As per the audited financials released in April, Meanwhile had 1,183 BTC in total assets at the end of 2025, a compounded annual growth rate of over 5x. Legal capital and surplus of the company amounted to 759 BTC.

Unlike conventional insurers, Meanwhile calculates policy premiums, benefits and balance-sheet values in BTC. This structure allows policyholders to maintain Bitcoin-denominated coverage without converting their holdings into traditional currencies.

    Meanwhile Targets Wealthy Bitcoin Investors

Company’s ‘BTC Life 1-Pay’ product focuses on high-net-worth individuals outside the US. The payment is made in Bitcoins with a premium, and death benefits are paid in Bitcoins. It offers a margin call-free loan for as much as 90% of the policy value, available after 1 year.

The company has formed alliances with 15 insurance brokers that cater to clients in Singapore, Hong Kong, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. In 2024, Meanwhile was licensed as an insurance company by the Monetary Authority of Bermuda.

    Final Thoughts

Meanwhile’s recent funding comes as an example of the increasing awareness of insurance and inheritance planning that is linked to the Bitcoin blockchain. However, there are risks of valuation with a cryptocurrency that are not the same as with traditional insurance products due to its volatility.

This will rely on meeting regulatory compliance, financial stability, and customer adoption.
