Sony Group has introduced a global incubation initiative designed to turn blockchain-based entertainment concepts into commercial products. The program targets startups and independent creators developing digital content, fan experiences and new revenue models on its Soneium network.
Sony Targets Commercial Blockchain Applications
According to Sony’s October 29 announcement, the Sony Onchain Entertainment Incubation Program will offer selected teams technical infrastructure, business development assistance and marketing support. Participants may collaborate with Sony Group companies and meet potential investors, although funding is not guaranteed.
The initiative builds on two earlier programs that supported 43 projects since 2024. Unlike broader blockchain accelerators, the new effort emphasizes entertainment services that consumers can actually use.
Sony has not announced a fixed investment pool or specified how many applicants will be selected.
Soneium Expands Tokenized Entertainment Plans
The program arrives alongside Soneium’s proposed native token and Tokenized IP initiative, which aims to connect creators, intellectual property owners and fans through digital assets.
Potential applications include music, anime, gaming, collectibles and royalty-linked products. A planned platform would support token offerings, fan participation and royalty distribution.
Soneium’s first proposed Tokenized IP project involves Moriusa, a character owned by Super State Holdings, with possible merchandise, animation and licensing activities. However, the SONEIUM token remains unissued, with no confirmed launch date, supply or allocation details.
Partnerships and Network Growth
c and Startale Group launched Soneium’s Ethereum layer-2 mainnet in January 2025. According to Startale, the network had processed more than 500 million transactions and supported over 250 applications by January 2026. That month, Sony Ventures invested USD 13 million in Startale through the Sony Innovation Fund.
In September, Soneium partnered with South Korea’s DayOneDream to explore tokenized K-pop intellectual property and concert royalties. It also adopted OP Enterprise services, including infrastructure monitoring and incident response, under an agreement targeting 99.9% monthly uptime.
Final Thoughts
Sony’s strategy combines creator incubation, blockchain infrastructure and entertainment partnerships. The critical test will be whether developers convert tokenized ownership and fan engagement concepts into sustainable products rather than speculative assets. Commercial adoption, consumer protections and reliable royalty mechanisms will determine the program’s longer-term impact.
