Arizona’s crypto ATM law has helped 35 scam victims get back $171,332 since September 2025. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced the refunds on August 12, 2026. The law took effect on September 26, 2025, to protect people from crypto ATM scams. Eligible new customers can receive full refunds when they report fraud within 30 days.
The law allows crypto ATMs to operate in Arizona under stricter rules. It requires operators to return money when a qualifying customer loses funds through a confirmed scam. The rule also limits daily transactions and adds warnings to help prevent more crypto fraud.
Mayes urged victims to report scams quickly and seek help from authorities. She said, “My office is happy to help any victim of crypto ATM fraud receive a refund they are entitled to under Arizona law.”
The refund rule applies to new customers who have used an operator for fewer than 10 days. Victims must contact the crypto ATM operator within 30 days of the transaction. They must also report the case to law enforcement or the Attorney General’s Office within the same period.
A police or Attorney General report must confirm that fraud caused the transaction. After confirmation, the operator must return the full amount, including related fees.
The law also sets daily limits for crypto ATM users. New customers can transact up to $2,000 per day. Existing customers can transact up to $10,500 per day.
Crypto ATM operators must show scam warnings and provide transaction receipts. They must also offer round-the-clock customer support and use blockchain tools to identify suspicious wallets.
The $171,332 recovery gives Arizona an early result from its new crypto ATM rules. The state has chosen tighter controls and refunds instead of banning these machines.
